The Meru or Wameru in Swahili are a Bantu ethnic group that have been living on the slopes of the volcanic mountain that bears their name for over eight hundred years. They are known for their agricultural practices and continue this tradition today. While visiting their village in Tengeru you will learn about their life and culture. On the tour, you will visit local farms as you trek through the village that mixes agriculture and nature. You will visit their homes and see how they live and have a local lunch You will finish with a short hike up the slopes to view Mt. Kilimanjaro (cloud cover depending). There are two different routes that you can take through the village, one by walking and one by bicycle.
The coffee plantation that we do our main coffee tour is in this village and can be added to the village tour.
