Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano with three volcanic cones. It is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest freestanding mountain above sea level in the world at 5,895 m (19,341 ft) above sea level and 4,900 m (16,100 ft) above its plateau base. It is also the highest volcano in the Eastern Hemisphere. It is the only place in Africa that has snow year round. The journey to the summit and back typically takes five to eight days to complete. The amount of days needed to summit and return to the base depends on physical aptitude and the ability to handle altitude change. If an extra day is needed for your group, this can be arranged during your hike.
