Kibosho is located near the Mweka Gate, a common exit point for hikers of Kilimanjaro. We have two different bike tours at this location, one to acclimatize to the elevation before your ascent of Kilimanjaro and the other to visit local villages in the region and learn about local life and culture.
The Elevation Acclimatization Tour will start at the Kibosho Kirima Market, where you will be dropped off by vehicle. From there you will ride to Kibosho Cathedral Church, built by German missionaries. Then you will ride to the Mweka gate. After leaving the gate, you will have lunch with a local Chagga family and visit an organic banana farm for a tour. Then you will ride to Mawella Cathedral Church before heading back to Moshi. The ride is 16.5 miles (27 km) and takes between 3-5 hours not including transportation.
The Banana Villages Tour will begin at the Kibosho Cathedral Church and from there you will ride through over four other villages, going across banana and coffee farms, crossing rivers, and meeting local Chagga people. You will have lunch at Mama Lisa's house in Okaseni Village where she will teach you how to make banana stew and ugali. After lunch you will ride downhill to return to Moshi. This tour is manageable by most riders. The ride is 17 miles (28 km) and takes about 5 hours not including transportation.
