On the outskirts of the city is the Arusha Giraffe Center.  The center is a refuge for Maasai giraffes from the "Mwsakini Corridor", notorious for poaching.  In addition to being a sanctuary for these majestic creatures, the center focuses on educational outreach to show how the endangered status of the Maasai giraffe is directly correlated with the health of their ecosystems and the well-being of the surrounding communities.  They are showing by example how it is possible to bring back the giraffes' natural habitat.  After learning more details about the center, you will be able to go out into the reserve and walk amongst the giraffes.  Just keep in mind that they are wild.
