Datoga Village, Lake Eyasi

01/21

The Datoga are an semi-nomadic agrarian tribe that raise mostly catttle and goats and grow crops like maize, beans, and millet.  Along with being great farmers, they are excellent blacksmiths.  They are the primary source of arrowheads for the Hadzabe.  While visiting them you will see them do their metalwork over an open fire, learn about their lifestyle and culture, and enter their homes to see how they live and how they prepare maize.

Hadzabe Village, Lake Eyasi

01/44

The Hadzabe are a hunter-gatherer tribe that has remained mostly unchanged in their practices and lifestyle for thousands of years until the last century.  The Hadzabe speak a language that is isolated to only the little over a thousand Hadzabe who live today.  They speak with clicks and their language is not considered similar to any other on earth.  While visiting the Hadzabe you will see their homes, learn about their lifestyle and customs, learnt to shoot a bow and arrow, and witness them doing a traditional dance.  There is also the opportunity to arrive earlier and join the tribe on a local hunt, but this is not for the faint of heart.
